The Federal Trade Commission's Consumer Sentinel Network contains reports on Romance Scams and the associated financial losses. Annual losses reported were: $493 million in 2019, $730 million in 2020, $1.3 billion in 2021, and $1.3 billion in 2022. It is noted that these figures likely represent only a small fraction of the actual harm, as the vast majority of frauds go unreported to the government.
